A Senior Partner of leading accountancy firm, Haines Watts in Liverpool, celebrated 30 years of partnership this month. Russell Silverman qualified as an accountant in 1982 and became a partner in May 1987.
It all began when Russell made a visit to a childhood friend’s house and was very impressed by the grandeur of the house, the large chandeliers, colour television and sports car on the drive. He asked his friend what his father’s profession was and was told he was an accountant. That was that, decision made, Russell was going to train to become an accountant, work really hard and hopefully have the life of luxury of his friend. Unfortunately, what the friend forgot to mention was that his family were the recent benefactors of an inheritance from his Mother’s family!
During his lengthy and successful career, Russell has supported business owners through every possible situation. A typical day is spent advising owner managed businesses as they progress and develop, ranging from startups to long established businesses. He is comfortable dealing with any type of business and, as well as ensuring they keep up their compliance requirements and mitigate their tax liabilities, is able to provide practical solutions to any challenge facing the business or business owner.
Russell prides himself on a friendly, practical and down to earth approach with clients and always takes into account the fact that a business decision has an effect on the personal lives of the directors and employees of that business. He is renowned for his expertise in handling complex family business matters including succession and retirement planning and business restructure and although Russell is very friendly and approachable, he does not hold back in giving his opinion, even if it’s the unpopular one to protect clients’ interests.
"Russell brings the team together with his morale boosting approach and has built many close and long lasting relationships with clients. "
Russell said “I have seen a lot of changes over the years (the main one being computers!) and I like to think that Haines Watts continue to stay current in an ever changing industry.”
Fellow director Frank Murphy said “I have known Russell for 20 years and during that time we have become great friends as well as business partners. He is very supportive and a pleasure to work with.”
Frank continued “ I wish Russell my congratulations and continued success here at Haines Watts.”
