Which? and SimpleTax partner to simplify tax returns

"Partnering with SimpleTax has enabled Which? to give consumers straight-forward, jargon-free help with self-assessment and make the process of completing a tax return much less taxing."

SimpleTax, a HMRC-recognised tax solution provider, is working with Which? to make self-assessment returns more straightforward. According to SimpleTax data, 75% of missed tax allowances are from the self-employed sector. As the government pushes for online tax accounts with the Making Tax Digital initiative, this collaboration is designed to simplify reporting and ensure the self-employed pay no more than they owe.

Which? has worked with SimpleTax to launch a new tax calculator, which gives their members, as well as anyone who needs to complete a self-assessment return, transparency on tax allowances, thanks to intuitive prompts based on their profile and data. Which? sought a long-term and consumer-oriented solution. The SimpleTax solution offers the ability to submit directly to HMRC and tailored tips.

“We knew that ease of use and user experience would be crucial deciding factors. To this end, we were confident that SimpleTax would be perfect, as it has been developed and refined for the individual, based on feedback from our users over the past 5 years,” says Tracy Eastham, Head of Partnerships.

Having undergone a thorough due diligence process, SimpleTax came out as the provider of choice. In December, Which? launched a new service that allows members and non-members to see their tax liabilities upfront, in association with SimpleTax.

Gareth Shaw, Head of Which? Money Online, said:

“We know that the thought of completing a lengthy, complex tax return form full of jargon is off-putting and understandably confusing for many. Partnering with SimpleTax has enabled Which? to give consumers straight-forward, jargon-free help with self-assessment and make the process of completing a tax return much less taxing.”

This fast, intuitive solution is ideal for business owners, landlords, pensioners and investors, available to Which? members as a value-added service. As the partnership moves forward, plans are already underway to make managing tax obligations even easier for the self-employed.
