Executive education division beats revenue target

An executive education division created by training and conference provider Salford Professional Development has surpassed its £1m revenue target months ahead of schedule.

The division was launched last May to provide executive training for leaders and managers in the public, private and voluntary sectors, amid growing demand from employers seeking ways to engage their staff more effectively and retain key talent.

It is led by director Alison Kennedy with a senior team that includes Phil Whitman, Jennie Jacobs and David Daniels.

So far it has clocked up sales of more than £1m for SPD’s current financial year, which ends on July 31.

The division runs more than 30 open courses at the University of Salford and sites in Liverpool, Milton Keynes and London, in addition to providing online programmes and bespoke training on clients’ premises.

SPD uses experts from the University of Salford Business School, the Institute of Directors and other organisations to deliver its courses.

These include a Certificate in Executive Business Administration, Aspiring Leaders and Aspiring Finance Directors programmes.

Other subjects covered include project management, negotiating skills, organisational culture, responsibilities of directorship, business law, public speaking, strategic thinking, mentoring, coaching and planning and managing team performance.

Delegates from the UK and countries including Australia, Nigeria, Spain, Kenya and India have attended courses. They have ranged from junior managers to chief executives working in sectors such as finance, charities, energy and utilities, engineering, manufacturing, environment and healthcare.

Alison Kennedy said: “We are delighted to be ahead of our initial revenue target at this stage of the financial year, with several months of selling still to come.

Salford Professional Development was established in 2012 as a subsidiary of the University of Salford. The firm runs conferences and events, CPD courses and bespoke and in-house training for the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

Profits generated by SPD are ploughed back into the university, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
